The East Union School Nurse demonstrates that he/she meets the following criteria and responsibilities: 

 

Education:

Current State Board of Nursing License (Registered Nurse)

One-year experience as Registered Nurse

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional stooping, bending and reaching
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments

3. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  Essential Functions

  2. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive health program for students, parents, and employees of the district
  3. Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines
  4. Communicates effectively with members of the school district and community
  5. Works effectively with community organizations
  6. Reacts to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
  7. Appropriately operates all equipment as required
  8. Supports the value of an education
  9. Supports the philosophy and mission of East Union Community School

 

4. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  General Responsibilities

  1. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive health program for students, parents and employees of the district
  2. Conducts student health appraisals, including:
  • medical examinations
  • vision screening
  • hearing screenings
  • weighing and measuring
  • blood pressure screenings
  • follow-up of problems noted
  • consultation with teachers and parents regarding health problems  
  1. Coordinates a program of communicable disease control based on State Immunization laws, to include:
    • maintains immunization records for each student
    • communicates with parents regarding immunization requirements
    • does dental screenings for all incoming Kindergarten, Grade 9 and students new to district
    • leads screening for all incoming Kindergarten students   
  2. Coordinates a comprehensive program of caring for students who are injured or who become ill at school
  3. Provides faculty and staff with CPR training, first aid, and other health care information and supplies as requested 
  4. Assists in providing emergency care for accidents and sudden illness of pupils until parents assume responsibility
  5. Notifies parents and building administrators regarding children who are severely ill or injured
  6. Coordinates and supervises a comprehensive program of dental health education
  7. Encourages parents to provide their children with annual dental check-ups
  8. Requests assistance for dentally indigent children
  9. Helps establish a comprehensive program of School Health:
  • emergency procedures
  • medication administration protocols
  • safety measures & programs
  • student/personnel health services
  • health education 
  1. Encourages periodic health examinations for all children
  2. Confers with parents and community agencies concerning the health of children
  3. Assists in planning the health curriculum and instructional materials
  4. Assists in prevention and control of communicable diseases
  5. Assists in referral and planning programs for children with physical modification & special health concerns
  6. Counsels with teachers, students, and parents concerning children’s individual health problems
  7. Maintains a cumulative health folder for each student, recording all data pertinent to the child’s health
  8. Submits accurate and timely reports as required by various health agencies
  9. Immediately reports to the Principal any safety hazards or unsanitary conditions observed in the school environment
  10. Orders and maintains all supplies for the health service program
  11. Serves as a member of the school district Wellness Committee
  12. Assists with enrollment procedures
  13. Sees that district health policies are observed throughout the school day
  14. Keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques
  15. Obtains advance approval of the Superintendent for all activities and expenditures
  16. Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodbourne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  17. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, or other Administrative Staff

 

 

The school nurse shall be directly responsible to the principals and superintendent.
