HEAD COACH
Job Description
Purpose: The Head Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach provides leadership and supervision for team and individual sports, and works closely with the other staff and administration of East Union Community School.
Responsible to: Athletic Director and Principal
Payment rate: According to negotiated agreement
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Current State Coaching Endorsement Certificate on file in the central office.

Desire to continue career improvement.
-
Must hold a current State of Iowa Coaching endorsement or authorization.
Physical Requirements/Environment Conditions

Requires some travel.
-
Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
-
Must work in noisy and crowded environments
Essential Functions:
-
Coordinate and supervise team and individual sports.
-
Promote an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Ensure that all athletic activities conform to state activity association guidelines.
-
Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
-
Work effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations.
-
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

Assign timers and scorekeepers for home athletic events.
-
Support the value of an education.
-
Support the philosophy and mission of East Union Community School.
General Responsibilities:
-
Coordinate and supervise team and individual sports.
-
Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.
-
Ensure that student athletes meet eligibility rules.
-
Ensure that physical evaluation forms and permission forms are properly completed and filed in the Athletic Director’s office.
-
Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.
-
Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms.
-
Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
-
Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Athletic Director and Principal.
-
Ensure proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment.
-
Submit a complete team roster to the Athletic Director ten days prior to the first contest. The following items should be included: player’s name, year in school, height, weight, and uniform number, where applicable.

Submit an end of the year report to the Athletic Director at the close of each season.
-
Assign timers and scorekeepers for home athletic events.
-
Publish the results of contests in area newspapers and report the same to area radio and television stations.
-
Present a letter of recognition (emblem) to all athletes who meet the necessary requirements.
-
Clearly assign the duties of the assistant coaches and junior high coaches.
-
See that district policies are observed during all activities.
-
Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
-
Obtain advance approval of the Athletic Director and Principal for all activities and expenditures.
-
Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
-
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

CHEERLEADER SPONSOR
Job Description
Purpose: The Head Cheerleader Sponsor promotes sportsmanship and physical fitness among students. The Head Sponsor supervises all cheerleader activities, and works closely with other staff and the administration of East Union Community School.
Responsible to: Athletic Director and Principal
Payment rate: According to negotiated agreement
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (preferred).

Current State Teaching Certificate on file in the central office (preferred).

Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions:
-
Coordinate and supervise cheerleading activities at district, league, state, and other levels.

Promote sportsmanship and physical fitness.
-
Ensure that all cheerleader activities conform to state activity association guidelines.
-
Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
-
Work effectively with members of the school district and community.
-
Work effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations.
-
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

Support the value of an education.

General Responsibilities:

Supervise cheerleader activities.

Update and administer the school’s cheerleading constitution.

Hold tryout –
-
Distribute applications to interested students.
-
Distribute and discuss the constitution with students, and secure signed parent and student permission forms.
-
Inform students of any costs involved, and distribute a list of cheers that are required for tryouts.
-
Secure judges for the tryouts.
-
With the help of the assistant sponsor or other impartial person, tally points awarded by the judges during tryouts. Determine tryout results by adding the judges’ points to the teacher evaluation poi9nts.
-
Announce and post the results.
-
Ensure that all members have completed the proper registration (signed constitution, physical, insurance forms, medical history and risk forms) prior to the first performance. File all registration forms with the athletic director.
-
Organize and schedule practices and performances. Distribute a schedule of such activities to each member.
-
Coordinate pep rallies, parades, and other activities.
-
Preview all skits, presentations, sign, and posters for appropriateness.
-
Present a letter of recognition (emblem) to all members who follow the constitution and perform satisfactorily.
-
Supervise the ordering, distribution, and collection of uniforms.
-
Secure transportation to out-of-town activities.
-
Ensure that safety precautions are observed during all activities.
-
Make sure all members meet state activity association eligibility rules.
-
See that district policies are observed during all activities.
-
Implement discipline rules regarding demerits, benching, and terminations as specifically defined in the constitution, and keep records of such actions.
-
Coordinate and supervise fundraising activities.
-
Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques by attending camp, clinics, workshops, etc.
-
Obtain advance approval from the Athletic Director and Principal for all activities, practices, performances, and expenditures.
-
Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

CHEERLEADING SPONSOR
Job Description
The cheerleading sponsor should be responsible for the care of all students when they are involved in activities associated with cheerleading. The sponsor should also be responsible for any and all uniforms and equipment associated with cheerleading. The sponsor should also be responsible for all monies generated or associated with cheerleading. The sponsor should carry out these duties in a manner befitting the teaching profession, and representing the policies of the East Union Community School. At anytime that these duties cannot be fulfilled completely, it will be the sponsor’s responsibility to find a replacement from certified staff members to substitute and carry out any of these obligations not able to be met by the sponsor.
Suggested minimal activity attendance:
-
Provide transportation and supervision for all away varsity football games.
-
Attend all after school scheduled cheerleading practices.
-
Attend at least one basketball game per week during the season at the varsity level.
-
Attend at least one-half of the varsity home wrestling meets and provide transportation and supervision to out of town meets and tournaments when needed.
-
Provide pep bus supervision to road activities whenever that need arises.

ASSISTANT COACH OR MIDDLE SCHOOL COACH
Job Description
Purpose: The Assistant/Middle School coach assists the Head coach in promoting an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Assistant/Middle School coach assists in providing leadership and supervision for team and individual sports, and works closely with the other staff and administration of East Union Community School.
