CHEERLEADER SPONSOR
Job Description
 
Purpose:  The Head Cheerleader Sponsor promotes sportsmanship and physical fitness among students.  The Head Sponsor supervises all cheerleader activities, and works closely with other staff and the administration of East Union Community School.
 
Responsible to:  Athletic Director and Principal
 
Payment rate:  According to negotiated agreement
 
Qualifications:
1.      High school diploma or equivalent
2.      Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (preferred).
3.      Current State Teaching Certificate on file in the central office (preferred).
4.      Desire to continue career improvement.
 
Essential Functions:
1.      Coordinate and supervise cheerleading activities at district, league, state, and other levels.
2.      Promote sportsmanship and physical fitness.
3.      Ensure that all cheerleader activities conform to state activity association guidelines.
4.      Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
5.      Work effectively with members of the school district and community.
6.      Work effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations.
7.      React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
8.      Support the value of an education.
9.      Support the philosophy and mission of East Union Community School.
 
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1.      Requires some travel.
2.      Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
3.      Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
 
General Responsibilities:
1.      Supervise cheerleader activities.
2.      Update and administer the school’s cheerleading constitution.
3.      Hold tryout –
a.      Distribute applications to interested students.
b.      Distribute and discuss the constitution with students, and secure signed parent and student permission forms.
c.      Inform students of any costs involved, and distribute a list of cheers that are required for tryouts.
d.      Secure judges for the tryouts.
e.      With the help of the assistant sponsor or other impartial person, tally points awarded by the judges during tryouts.  Determine tryout results by adding the judges’ points to the teacher evaluation poi9nts.
f.       Announce and post the results.
4.      Ensure that all members have completed the proper registration (signed constitution, physical, insurance forms, medical history and risk forms) prior to the first performance.  File all registration forms with the athletic director.
5.      Organize and schedule practices and performances. Distribute a schedule of such activities to each member.
6.      Coordinate pep rallies, parades, and other activities.
7.      Preview all skits, presentations, sign, and posters for appropriateness.
8.      Present a letter of recognition (emblem) to all members who follow the constitution and perform satisfactorily.
9.      Supervise the ordering, distribution, and collection of uniforms.
10.   Secure transportation to out-of-town activities.
11.   Ensure that safety precautions are observed during all activities.
12.   Make sure all members meet state activity association eligibility rules.
13.   See that district policies are observed during all activities.
14.   Implement discipline rules regarding demerits, benching, and terminations as specifically defined in the constitution, and keep records of such actions.
15.   Coordinate and supervise fundraising activities.
16.   Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques by attending camp, clinics, workshops, etc.
17.   Obtain advance approval from the Athletic Director and Principal for all activities, practices, performances, and expenditures.
18.   Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
19.   Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.
