HEAD COACH
Job Description
Purpose: The Head Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach provides leadership and supervision for team and individual sports, and works closely with the other staff and administration of East Union Community School.
Responsible to: Athletic Director and Principal
Payment rate: According to negotiated agreement
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current State Coaching Endorsement Certificate on file in the central office.
- Desire to continue career improvement.
- Must hold a current State of Iowa Coaching endorsement or authorization.
Physical Requirements/Environment Conditions
- Requires some travel.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments
Essential Functions:
1. Coordinate and supervise team and individual sports.
2. Promote an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
3. Ensure that all athletic activities conform to state activity association guidelines.
4. Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community.
5. Work effectively with booster clubs and other community organizations.
6. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
7. Assign timers and scorekeepers for home athletic events.
8. Support the value of an education.
9. Support the philosophy and mission of East Union Community School.
General Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise team and individual sports.
- Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.
- Ensure that student athletes meet eligibility rules.
- Ensure that physical evaluation forms and permission forms are properly completed and filed in the Athletic Director’s office.
- Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.
- Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms.
- Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
- Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Athletic Director and Principal.
- Ensure proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment.
- Submit a complete team roster to the Athletic Director ten days prior to the first contest. The following items should be included: player’s name, year in school, height, weight, and uniform number, where applicable.
- Submit an end of the year report to the Athletic Director at the close of each season.
- Assign timers and scorekeepers for home athletic events.
- Publish the results of contests in area newspapers and report the same to area radio and television stations.
- Present a letter of recognition (emblem) to all athletes who meet the necessary requirements.
- Clearly assign the duties of the assistant coaches and junior high coaches.
- See that district policies are observed during all activities.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
- Obtain advance approval of the Athletic Director and Principal for all activities and expenditures.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.
