Job Title: East Union Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Department: East Union Early Childhood Center

Reports To: Director 

 

Education/Certificates Required:

Earn or have CDA or equivalent, Associate Degree, BA or BS Degree

Other Requirements:

  • Will acquire or have First Aid training
  • Need proof of TB test
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in both warm and cold conditions (indoor and outdoor environments)

Qualifications:

The assistant teacher helps in all operations as defined by the East Union Early Childhood Center Director performs a wide variety of duties. All duties assist in planning and implementing all East Union Early Childhood Center goals and objectives for the classroom.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Help to create a developmentally appropriate environment for children 2 ½-5 that will incorporate and encourage the use of language, social, cognitive, creativity, and motor skills of each child
  2. Embrace, embed, express, and grow in the early childhood principles and development within all areas of the program
  3. Assist by working with children individually and in small and large group settings.
  4. Help meet/exceed quality standards – which may include: NAEYC, QRS, QPPS, IELS
  5. Assist in implementing weekly lesson plans with developmentally appropriate activities incorporating all 8 Domains of Learning
  6. Help keep a child portfolio on each child and implement the Creative Curriculum Gold
  7. Encourage family involvement through volunteering in the classroom, assist in home visits, and family events
  8. Help to provide an environment of respect for each individual child’s culture, home language and family composition, through use of language and social experiences and classroom material.
  9. Guide children by making experiences available that will support emotional development for children
  10. Accept each child where he/she is and provide opportunities for them to grow that aredevelopmentally appropriate

Child Health /Safety

  1. Assist teacher in referring families to appropriate primary healthcare, which includes medical, dental, and mental health and Area Education Agency (AEA)
  2. Support teacher with individualized plan for each child based upon observation and assessment information
  3. Implement practices and requirements that promote positive, culturally relevant health behavior.  Responsible for the completion and supervision of cleaning and maintenance of the classroom, restrooms, storage areas, kitchen and any building areas that the program uses

Child Nutrition

  1. Assist families in meeting each child’s nutritional needs, which includes implementing the food program requirements and family style dining
  2. Provide nutritional information to the families 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES TO MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Work well with others as part of a team
  2. Attend all training workshops and in-services, as required by East Union School and Director
  3. Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills
  4. Maintain and complete required paperwork meeting deadlines 
  5. Demonstrate skill in organizational and time management
  6. Handle confidential information with discretion
  7. Encourage parent involvement
  8. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with East Union Early Childhood Center families, staff, director, and community contacts
  9. Maintain the facility/equipment. This would include cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms, classroom, class materials, storage areas and all areas used
  10. Strive to maintain a positive attitude and a desire for excellence in job performance and relationships
