Job Description
Job Title: East Union Early Childhood Teacher
Department: East Union Early Childhood Center
Reports To: Director
Education/Certificates Required:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in education. Early Childhood endorsement required.
Other Requirements:
- Will acquire or have First Aid training
- Need proof of TB test
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work in both warm and cold conditions (indoor and outdoor environments)
Qualifications:
The teacher facilitates in all operations as defined by the East Union Early Childhood Center Director and performs a wide variety of duties. The teacher plans and implements all East Union Early Childhood Center goals and objectives for the classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Create a developmentally appropriate environment for children 2 ½-5 that will incorporate and encourage the use of language, social, cognitive, creativity, and motor skills of each child
- Embrace, embed, express, and grow in the early childhood principles and development within all areas of the program
- Work with children individually and in small and large group settings.
- Meet/exceed quality standards – which may include: NAEYC, QRS, QPPS, IELS
- Prepare and carry out weekly lesson plans with developmentally appropriate activities incorporating all 8 Domains of Learning
- Keep a child portfolio on each child and implement the Creative Curriculum Gold
- Encourage family involvement through volunteering in the classroom, parent or guardianconferences, home visits, and family events
- Provide an environment of respect for each individual child’s culture, home language and family composition, through use of language and social experiences and classroom materials
- Guide children by making experiences available that will support emotional development for children.
- Accept each child where he/she is and provide opportunities for them to grow that aredevelopmentally appropriate.Provide inclusion of children with disabilities consistent with their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and attend IEP meetings
Child Health /Safety
- Make determination of a child’s health status. Refer families to appropriate primary healthcare, which includes medical, dental, and mental health and Area Education Agency (AEA)
- Develop individualized plan for each child based upon observation and assessment information
- Implement practices and requirements that promote positive, culturally relevant health behavior. Responsible for the completion and supervision of cleaning and maintenance of the classroom, restrooms, storage areas, kitchen and any building areas that the program uses
Child Nutrition
- Assist families in meeting each child’s nutritional needs, which includes implementing the food program requirements and family style dining
- Provide nutritional information to the families
- Collaborate with children, families, staff, mental health professionals and the community to increase awareness/understanding of mental wellness and early childhood development
Family Partnership

Advocate for communities that are supportive of children and families of all cultures
- Act as a guide when working with volunteers and student teachers in the classroom
- Plan/attend parent activities
- Complete at least two home visits/parent conferences per year
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES TO MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- Work well with others as part of a team
- Attend all training workshops and in-services, as required by East Union School and Director
- Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills
- Maintain and complete required paperwork meeting deadlines
- Demonstrate skill in organizational and time management
- Provide training/information as needed to volunteers and new coworkers
- Handle confidential information with discretion
- Encourage parent involvement
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with East Union Early Childhood Center families, staff, director, and community contacts
- Maintain the facility/equipment. This would include cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms, classroom, class materials, storage areas and all areas used
- Strive to maintain a positive attitude and a desire for excellence in job performance and relationships
